Most aspiring elites always make statements like "when I get to the university I'm going to have fun and be free". True you will be free because you wouldn't have a parental figure to watch over you and give you rules. But is it going to be all fun and filled with freedom.
Firstly it all starts with the confusion of understanding the school system and getting used to the life of being alone. Then getting used to the administration of the non lecturing staffs, then beings totally obedient so you can sign your receipts and complete the clearance process.
Secondly there's the issue of getting used to the early hours of lectures and then not getting the particular location for the lecture or perhaps wrong information of the lecture hall. This particular issue discourages most students from going to lectures because at the end of the day you might not grasp a particular thing from the lecture as a result of the student being exhausted.
Thirdly there's the struggle of getting water for those in the hostel.
Water is a necessity, now due to the population of students in the hostels before you get back from class water has probably finished. Then, You have to stand on a long line and struggle for a bucket. Some students that are usually calm when they get to the tap get aggressive just so they can get water.
Also there's the struggle of submitting assignment in your department. Here you have to be on a long line where the senior colleagues would want intimidate the lower level students to be on the line .
Now I wonder, where the time for fun?
All these struggles are what makes up the memories and experiences of a Nigerian student. The experience makes your stay in the school fun. And pushes you to do better in your academics.
I hope you like my story.
